Girl Scout Program

Girl Scout Program: Introduction to Horses

Purpose:  To provide a two hour introduction to horses which is instructive, safe, and fun.

Program

Early in the session, riders will learn about care of the horse, grooming and tacking. This all develops the scouts' confidence in being with and handling horses. They will then experience a ride on horseback at walk (and trot if desired) with the instructor/helpers controlling the horse. The group will then be ready to ride ponies or horses on a nature trail ride (with a leader) to enjoy the farm environment. In the event of inclement weather, we will ride in the large indoor barn and have games on horseback.

What to Wear

Jeans! (Shorts are very uncomfortable to ride in!) Boots or hard shoes with heels are preferable to soft shoes.  Sandals with no toes are not suitable!

Hard hats must be worn when riding.  If you don't own one, we will provide one.

Cost

$45 for each  Girl Scout. Minimum Group size is 10 girls (or minimum of $450 for fewer than 10 girls).  We need to know roughly what the group size will be to arrange for the appropriate number of instructors and horses.

Deposit

To reserve your time: Please return the attached registration form with a $100 deposit.

Waivers

A liability waiver for each child must be presented at the beginning of the “lesson program” in order for the child to participate.
